More Information
Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born on 30 September 1874
at Blenheim Palace, he was schooled at Harrow before entering Sandhurst Military
College in 1893 and eventually saw active service in India. Before leaving for
India he arranged to write reports for a newspaper which were later turned into
his first book. He soon became famous having resigned his commission to be a war
journalist and writer only to be captured by the Boers, in typical Churchill
style he escaped and rejoined the army. He was openly ambitious and in 1900 was
elected to parliament, he soon caused a political sensation by leaving the
Tories and joining the Liberals where he was soon promoted. His political career
is more than well documented and well beyond the scope of this page. The writing
continued including highly acclaimed historical and biographical works. Winston
Churchill is still today a highly regarded and collectable author and whilst
later works are not difficult to find his early first editions are considered
rare books
