More Information
William Trevor Cox was born in County Cork, Ireland, on 24 May
1928 and spent his formative years in Eire. He attended many schools before
going to Trinity College Dublin later drifting into teaching via various dull
jobs. Being married and struggling to make ends meet he moved to England to
teach though soon became bored once again. His first love was sculpture and he
achieved some professional success in this field before becoming a copywriter,
once again for financial reasons. His first novel went largely ignored and the
disappointment meant a period of 6 years before he tried again. Further efforts
met with ever increasing success both critically and commercially, by the mid
1960's he was regarded as a senior literary figure.
