Wilkie Collins, born 1824 died 1889 was a classic English
novelist and one of the inventors of the modern detective story. The novels,
The Woman in White and The Moonstone, are seminal works, hugely
influential then and now. Collins brought a literary quality and integrity to
popular, sensational fiction that was, hitherto, unknown. The majority of first
editions are two and three deckers, needless to say they are all collectable,
his key works extremely so. There are large premiums for original bindings,
rebound books and volumes bound together fall steeply in value. Overall one of
this country's most important fiction writers and someone who still remains both
immensely readable and collectable.
