More Information
Wilbur Smith was born in Rhodesia, now Zambia, on 9th January
1933 and grew up on a huge farm with a wealthy family. He left university and
wanted to become a writer though his father forbade it forcing him to become an
accountant. He was still working when he wrote his first published novel, he was
given a £1,000 advance which was justified as the book met with immediate
success thus enabling him to become a full time writer. He continued with a
prolific output and became one of the best selling thriller writers in the
world. His popularity has meant large print runs consequently first editions are
not scarce, that said the first few titles are not easy in collectable condition.
