WE Johns never intended to become mainly a 'boys' author but the
obvious success of the Biggles series probably made it inevitable. Throughout
his career Johns did try to pursue his adult works but publishers and critics
seemed to have little appetite for them which is a shame as many of the titles
are regarded retrospectively as being rather good. Needless to say. as with his
other work, early titles first editions are rare books and highly sought after,
Mossyface especially so.
