More Information
Herge was born in Brussels on 22nd May 1907 and was interested in
drawing cartoons from an early age. On leaving school he went to work at
a newspaper and was eventually given the chance to contribute cartoon strips to
the children's section. Tintin made his first appearance in 1930 and went on to
sell well over 100 million books as well as being a hugely popular TV series and
iconic figure. The books were initially published in French though English
editions are available for every title. Strangely the character seems not to
have suffered in terms of popularity over the decades with all main titles still
in print, DVD sales of the television and a strong market in collectable first
editions. Herge passed away in 1983.
