Stella Gibbons, born 1902 and died 1989, was, and still is, best remembered for her first novel, Cold Comfort Farm. The book remains a cornerstone title not only for collectors of Stella Gibbons but also for modern first edition collectors in general. As well as being a novelist she also wrote poetry, the first three works were all published in softcover wrappers, the final, Collected Poems, was a standard hardcover. Collectors should note that there was also a signed limited edition of this title published in the same year by The Collectors Book Club. Here first novel remains by far the scarcest and most sought after, later titles can be collected relatively easily and without great expense.
