Shiva Naipaul, born 1945 and died 1985, was born in Trinidad but
moved to England. Whilst somewhat eclipsed, both critically and commercially, by
his brother VS, he has a good reputation and enjoys good standing amongst
collectors. The first two novels are the most successful and collectable. His
novels blend satire, compassion against a Hindu background. Some suggest
suggests an over indulgence for nastiness mars some otherwise fine work. UK
editions precede their American counterparts in all cases, there are some
alternative titles which have been duly noted.
