Sebastian Faulks was born on 20th April 1953 in Berkshire,
England. A comfortable background enabled a private education followed by
Cambridge University where he graduated from with a degree in English
Literature. On leaving college he took a teaching job before going
into full time journalism. Three novels were published before his seminal work
Birdsong was published, a truly outstanding novel which rightly met with
commercial success as well as critical. The next novel Charlotte Grey was also
the subject of a successful film adaptation starring Cate Blanchett.
Unsurprising then that his books are now very collectable.
