More Information
Samuel Beckett, born 13 May 1906, went to school in his native
Dublin before going to Trinity College, Dublin. He went on to become a giant in
his genre and in 1969 was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. His
breakthrough, and his most famous work, was the play Waiting for Godot,
before this he was largely unknown to the general public. Needless to say, this
all adds up to a very collectable author. Some of his rarer works attract 'big
ticket' prices. Signed or inscribed association copies especially so. There have
also been several special signed and limited editions done, both here and in
America. Once again these, whilst not always rare books, are expensive. There is
plenty of material out there for the completist collector, though it has to be
said, somebody embarking on acquiring all his work in 1st edition status is
taking on quite a task and not just financially.
