RT Gould was born on 16th November 1890 in Portsmouth England the
son of a composer. On leaving school he spent 9 years in the Navy before leaving
due to a mental breakdown. He then went to work in the admiralty and spent 12
years of his own time cleaning and restoring the 4 John Harrison timekeepers.
His first, and most important, book was The Marine Chronometer which is still
regarded as a definitive work today. He was also responsible for the first
serious book investigating the Loch Ness Monster. The author passed away in 1948
aged 58.
