Richmal Crompton created on the best known characters in
children's literature in 1919 when the first story appeared in Home Magazine.
Crompton, a classics teacher, became a full time writer after a bout of illness
forced her to retire form teaching in 1923. She was a prolific writer so the
canon of collectable books is considerable, to add to this the popularity of the
character spawned a huge amount of collectable ephemera over the years. The
early titles in fist edition state with dust jackets are rare books with mid
range tiles being much easier to find, the last few titles can also be
particularly difficult to locate in collectable condition.
