ANDERSON, Poul (192,6) American science fiction author who is prolific and popular. He uses a clear style to deal in ingenious, if not particularly original, ways with most of the major themes of the genre. His "Trader" series which explores the role of commerce in
planetary interaction is clearly based on the experience of the American frontier, and has been influential. His best work extends contemporary characteristics of American society into a technologically different future ; although he has written accomplished fantasy.

He is most famous for adventure yarns with great
characters to invest in. His work did calm do in terms of reality and
length as his career progressed.
Most of the sci fi is solidly based on scientific fact, though he does push the
envelope at times. He specialised in planets that were unlike ours. Probably the
most famous was the planet of The Man Who Counts. His tales regularly
revolved around a marooned or stranded characters fight to survive on a
hostile foreign planet.
