He was born in Oxford, United Kingdom on 6 August 1934, real name Piers Anthony Dillingham Jacob. Whilst still an infant, his mother and father, both former students at Oxford, became heavily involved with the problems of children left without parents and hungry and homeless by the Spanish Civil War. He and his sister remained in England with relatives whilst their parents continued their charitable work..
