More Information
Philip Pullman was writing for some years before he truly shot to
fame with the release of Northern Lights. It is both highly acclaimed, prize
winning and controversial. We do not intend to get into any depth about the
content of the books, there are plenty of sites already doing that, our focus is
on the collectable side. The books, at the time of writing, have been amongst
the highest risers in value in the ultra-modern market, surpassed only by JK
Rowling. We remember only too well selling literally dozens of copies of Subtle
Knife for £25 a go, all signed as well ! Anyone wishing to collect the 1st
editions now will require a considerable budget, even ex-library copies are
commanding high prices. As always in this genre, condition is everything,
anything less than fine reduces in value dramatically. The author is also
something of a 'signer' so serious collectors should perhaps only consider
inscribed copies. English editions are more desirable than their American
counterparts, the Dark Materials series are by far the most expensive, though
early miscellaneous titles are rare, most having gone to public libraries, so
attract something of a premium.
