Peter Ackroyd was born in London in 1949. He graduated from
Cambridge University with double first class honours before going on to Yale in
the USA. His work has met with huge critical acclaim. He has won the Whitbread
and Heinemann awards. His work on the life of Charles Dickens is regarded, by
many, as definitive.
