PC Wren was born in Devon in 1885. Between the two wars he was
one of this country's most popular authors. He is, of course, best known for his
Beau Geste, Foreign Legion stories. There have been several successful films
based on his characters. The films notwithstanding, readers today seem to have
al but forgotten him. That said he is still well thought of by those familiar
with his work and, importantly, by collectors. His first editions are highly
sought after, particularly in their dust jackets. Early titles are rare though
and consequently quite valuable. The books have been reprinted in large numbers,
so for anyone unable to locate a 1st, or working on a restricted budget, there
are a wealth of attractive period books out there at very reasonable prices.
