More Information
Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin on 16th October 1854 to an
affluent, though somewhat notorious, family. He was educated at Trinity College
Dublin and won a scholarship to Magdalen College Oxford where he graduated from
with a double first. His life is well documented and far beyond the scope of
this monograph but suffice is to say he was, and remains, a colossal figure in
literature. This reputation is naturally translated into the value and
desirability of his first editions. All are keenly sought by collectors,
particularly anything signed. He died, impoverished, in Paris on 30th November
1900.
