MR James, Montague Rhodes, was born on 1st August 1862 in Kent.
He was clearly gifted from an early age and was educated at Temple Grove and
Eton College and began writing whilst at school. He later went on to become a
Fellow of King's College Cambridge. His first published book is regarded as a
cornerstone title in the genre and is highly collectable today. He was also
responsible for many academic and scholarly works as well as editing and
introducing many books. James passed away aged 74 in 1936 at Eton College.
