Montague Summers was born 10 April 1880 in England, the son of a
prosperous banker. He studied at Oxford before travelling extensively in France
and Italy. In 1908 he was ordained as a Deacon, his in God and the Devil led him
to leave the Church of England and become a Roman Catholic in 1909. His literary
work was highly regarded and he was regarded as an authority on writers of the
restoration period. He passed away, whilst still working, in 1948.
