Miss Read, real name Dora Saint, was born on 17th April 1913 and
her quaint English Village novels have sold millions of copies worldwide. Much
of their appeal lies in a perceived golden age of British life, whether or not
it ever really existed does not deter people from wallowing in its nostalgia.
The two series she is most associated with , are of course, the Thrush Green and
Fairacre books. As well as being popular with readers they are also collected.
Though none of the books would be regarded as rare, putting together a nice
clean set in first editions in dust jacket presents an enjoyable challenge.
