Marie Corelli, born 1 May 1855, was a hugely popular Edwardian
bestselling writer. Critics have been harsh subsequently, claiming her work to
be devoid of any literary merit but admit to some historical interest. She has
certainly fallen out of favour with the larger readership, though collector
interest is still about. The early triple deckers are the most collectable and
of the greatest value, they can also be fairly described as genuinely rare
books as well. Readers and collectors on a more restricted budget are very well
catered for with reprints being plentiful and very reasonably priced. They are
further enhanced by a mixture of attractive pictorial boards and attractive dust
jackets.
