Margaret Mitchell, born 1900 and died 1949, wrote only one novel
but it was enough! The book won the Pulitzer prize and has sold nearly 30
million copies worldwide. The film was not exactly a setback in terms of
commercial success of course. There are acres of print available about this book
so we will not add too much more. Sticking to the collectable side of things,
needless to say the book is hugely collectable. The US edition was published
first and collectors should be aware of the issue point described in the
bibliography, it makes a huge difference in terms of collectablility and value.
Ideally one should seek an unclipped dust jacket as well, in this case the price
should be $3. The UK edition is much rarer than the US though is worth
considerably less. It is a cornerstone title for any serious collector of
American literature, though given its value is probably beyond the reach of most
collectors, unless of course you find a bargain!.
