More Information
Malcolm Lowry, born 1909 and died 1957, was a troubled but
brilliant English writer. The vast majority of his work was published
posthumously though he did see the publication of his best, and most famous
work, Under the Volcano, which he wrote whilst living in a shack in
Canada. Sadly, his life was blighted by chronic alcoholism and he finally took
his own life. His first two books are especially sought after by collectors, in
1st edition status. All of the books on this page attract collectable prices
which, at the time of writing, have continued to steadily increase as he grows
in stature. The history, in terms of priority, is very mixed, as can be seen.
American and English precedence switches continually. Apart from the second book
English editions tend to attract higher prices. His life was beautifully summed
up by one commentator who said, "He was defeated by life but redeemed by art"
