Lord Alfred Tennyson, born 6 August 1809 in Lincolnshire (a local
lad !) is one of this country's finest Victorian writers. Much has been written
about his life and it is well covered elsewhere so we shall not bore you with
repetitious detail, we shall instead contain ourselves to his 1st edition works.
For those seeking reading copies there is a veritable feast out there, all at
very reasonable prices. Rather than buying a modern compendium why not consider
a period reprint? They cost next to nothing and nothing beats reading a book
that is in period to its original edition. For collectors there is good and bad
news. The good is that later titles are not uncommon, mainly due to his
popularity and the subsequent large print runs. Early titles are quite another
matter. Should any come to light they invariably attract very 'big ticket'
prices and tend to be beyond the means of most collectors. There are some nice
reissues and deluxe editions though which can soften the blow and embellish a
collection at the same time.
