More Information
Lord Dunsany, Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, was born in London on 24th July 1878 to an ancient titles family who lived in Dunsany castle for over 700 years. He was educated at Eton and Sandhurst and later joined the Coldstream Guards and fought with them during the Boer War. On his fathers death in 1899 he became the 18th Baron Dunsany and after the war led the traditional life of a country gentleman.  His first work was published at his own expense but he soon gained a legion of admirers, many of who later became writers of great note in the fantasy genre. His influence cannot be underestimated today and he is widely accepted as the first great fantasy writer of the twentieth century. His works are keenly sought by collectors with early titles being particularly rare. He passed away in hospital in 1957.
