Lemony Snicket, real name Daniel Handler, is the author of the
hugely successful Unfortunate Events series of children's books. The books
struck an instant chord with readers and collectors, helped in part by a most
attractive and uniform format. The characters created by Lemony Snickett have also been adapted for a film
featuring Jim Carey and Meryl Streep. In all cases American editions precede the
English. UK editions have printers keys which should contain the number 1 for
first issue status. Books 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and the Unauthorised Autobiography
were issued with wraparound bands in the UK.
