More Information
John Le Carre, real name David John Moore Cornwell, was born in
Dorset England in 1931and privately educated before going to Oxford University.
After a brief stint teaching at Eton he went to work for the Foreign Office and
later the Intelligence Services. The work and experience provided him with all
the background and ideas he needed to become the most highly regarded author in
the genre. His series character George Smiley appears in many of the novels and
seems initially an unlikely 'hero'. The huge success of his novels means the
later titles were printed in great numbers so are relatively easy to find though
the first 3 books are regarded as rare with Call for the Dead being especially
valuable
