John Galsworthy, born 14 August 1867, he read law at Oxford and
did not begin writing until aged thirty. he was, in his time, hugely popular
selling large numbers of books. He was also popular amongst collectors some
years ago. His first editions used to sell for considerable sums a few years
ago. Nowadays however they seem to have all but collapsed. Whilst popularity is
always going to affect residual values this is an extreme case and something of
a mystery. Every cloud... though, today collectors can put together many of the
1st editions in their original dust jackets for very reasonable prices indeed.
Many have particularly nice jacket designs which adds to their attractiveness.
His best known series still attract reasonable prices simply due to the
cornerstone nature of the title. The first book and the John Sinjohn titles
should also attract a premium due to rarity alone.
