Joe Davis was born in Derbyshire on 15th April 1901 the son of a
coal miner. He was an accomplished billiards player at an early age and started
his professional career in 1919 travelling all over the country to play for
money. In 1928, at the age of 27, he first became World Billiard Champion. It
was now that he began to impart his knowledge and experience in a series of
books that spanned almost fifty years.
