Jocelyn Brooke was a very stylish writer best known whose
reputation was built on a few novel and a 2 books of verse. He was born on 30th
November 1908 in Kent England, his father being a wine merchant. Initially
educated in Canterbury and later going to Worcester College Oxford. Leaving
Oxford without a degree Jocelyn Brooke reluctantly joined the family business, later
enlisting in the army, he served from 1940 to 1945 when he was discharged. He
did return to the army in 1947 but bought himself out with the proceeds of
The Military Orchid and then devoted himself to writing full time. All of
his first editions are collectable today, The Orchid series being the most
popular but Six Poems being by far the rarest and most valuable..
