More Information
J Meade Falkner was born on 8th May 1858 in Wiltshire, England, the son of a poor curate. He had a good education though, Marlborough School and later Oxford University were he studied history. On leaving he took a position as a personal tutor to a wealthy family, he subsequently rose through the ranks of the family's business eventually becoming company chairman. His devotion and loyalty to business is regarded by many as a potentially great literary loss. The Lost Stradivarius and , his best known book, Moonfleet more than hint at his potential. He retired in 1921 in order to devout his time to the study of church history and passed away in 1932
