More Information
Jean Rhys, born 1894 and passed away in 1979, was a British born
novelist. After she initially stopped writing in 1939 she was almost completely
forgotten. Thankfully when she finished Wide Sargasso Sea in 1966 interest in
her work was brought to the fore. She is widely regarded as having created some
of the strongest, and most rounded, female characters of the period. Today she
remains not only highly regarded in literary circles but also very collectable.
The early works, in their original dust jackets, are not only rare but quite
expensive as well. When English and American editions were published the British
1st edition precedes, they are also more desirable as collectors items.
