JD Salinger, Jerome David, was born in New York on 1st January
1919 and is something of a twentieth century phenomenon and cultural icon. His
reputation rest on his first book which is regarded as a modern classic. The
fact the author is also something of an enigma has also helped propel him into
legendary status. His first book is, of course, very collectable. The US edition
being more sought after and consequently of greater value.
