James Herbert was born in 1943 and is one of Britian's most
respected horror writers. Whilst not enjoying quite the same commercial success
as Stephen King (who has?) he is regarded by many to be just as successful in
critical terms. Consequently his books have become very collectable. Whilst
later titles can be sourced with relative ease the early books are a matter of
patience and some expense. The scarcity of the early books is further
exacerbated by the fact that the US editions were paperbacks, therefore
increased pressure from US collectors. As always, fine copies should be sought,
though depending on budget, lesser copies may be more realistic dependent on
budget. A large part of the first edition print runs also went to public
library.
