More Information
Jack Schaefer, born 1907 to 1991, is best known for his first
book, Shane, possibly one of the best known in American Western literature. It
has gained something of a cult status Stateside and consequently when complete
with its original dust jacket is a valuable book. The English edition, whilst
still not cheap is worth a great deal less. US first editions precede their
English counterparts in all cases, with some titles seeing no British edition. A
very important author in the genre, despite his relatively meagre output,
possibly because of it in fact. Given the rate at which some of his
contemporaries knocked the books out, many inevitably suffered from quality
issues.
