Graham Greene was born in 1904 the son of a headmaster. He went to Oxford University before pursuing a career in journalism and serving in the Foreign Office during the war. Several of his early novels were adapted for film with mixed results, indeed Greene himself seems to have taken against them. Brighton Rock is regarded by most, though not the author,  as his most important work and propelled him to the forefront of British authors. He is one of the most collectable literary authors  with his early books being much sought after, later titles in jacket are not considered rare, though collecting the early firsts is a matter of great patience and expense.
