George Macdonald Fraser was born on 2nd April 1925, his parents
were both doctors who hoped he would follow in their steps. Fraser had other
ideas and on leaving school enlisted in the army and fought inn India. On
returning he pursued a career as a journalist. His first book gave birth to his
most famous character, Harry Flashman, taken from Tom Brown's Schooldays. The
series has proven to be enduringly popular with readers and collectors. All of
his first editions are considered collectable though later titles are much
easier to find than than fine copies of the early books
