More Information
George Du Maurier, 1834-1896, was originally a satirical
cartoonist for the Punch magazine. He turned to novels when he started
to have problems with his eyesight. His rests largely on his second novel,
hugely popular at the time and reissued countless times, as well as being a
great success on the stage. This book and his first non-fiction title are the
most valuable of his first editions. The rest are, surprisingly, relatively
cheap. Precedence does switch a couple of times between the English and American
1sts though English editions are more desirable to most collectors irrespective.
