Sir Fitzroy Maclean was born on 11th March 1911to a military
background. He was born in Egypt but spent much of his childhood in various
countries being educated in various schools until winning a scholarship to
Cambridge. On leaving he joined the diplomatic service which was to provide the
background and experience for his books. He pursued a distinguished military
career and was also a member of parliament and cabinet member. He passed away in
1996
