Eve Garnett was born in Worcestershire, England, on 9th January
1900 and showed an artistic flair from a young age. She left school and went to
Art School were she won a scholarship to the Royal Academy. She illustrated a
couple of books for other authors before writing her debut novel which won the
Carnegie Medal in 1937 (beating The Hobbit!) the book remains her best
known today. At the age of 82 she wrote her autobiography which is recommended
to anyone seeking further information. She passed away in 1991.
