Eric Ambler, born 1909, worked in the film
industry and the secret service before becoming a full time
writer. He is rightly regarded as a pioneer in the field of
spy-thriller novels, moving the genre forward considerably.
Favouring exotic locations Ambler creates a real feeling of
mystery and intrigue which still reads well today.
