Enid Blyton's famous character has sold in excess of 70 million books worldwide and remains a favourite amongst both children and collectors. For the rare book enthusiast this area is a notorious nightmare when it comes to the question of how to identify a first edition. The books were reprinted in huge numbers, usually using the same plates. That said there are a few rules to help as a guide. Firstly, we recommend buying copies with their original dust jackets, this will then allow you to check the other titles listed and to ensure none post date the actual book, as they do on reprints. Secondly. numbers 1-6 should have the full Sampson Low address, 25 Gilbert Street, London W1 on the title page, the spines should also be rounded and NOT flat. From 7 onwards flat spines came in. The first fifteen books were also undated. This bibliography-checklist only covers the original 1st edition books, there are countless spin-off items such as pop ups, colouring books etc. We also apologise for using N***y in some places, this was done for unavoidable technical reasons.
