More Information
EM Delafield, Edmee Elizabeth Monica de al Pasture, was born
in Sussex, England, on 9th June 1890 to a wealthy and privileged family. She had
a remarkable life born in a country house, sent to a convent even spending time
at a Soviet collective farm. She gained independence by working when she came of
age and began to write in earnest. She is best remembered today for the
Provincial Lady series which began in 1930 and was an immediate success
enthralling readers on both sides of the Atlantic. Tragically after an operation
in 1941 she was left in constant pain and discomfort and on 2nd December 1943
she passed away aged on 53.
