More Information
Elizabeth Jane Howard, born 1923, remains best known for her
first novel, The Beautiful Visit. Her works were, and still are, well
regarded. They are very much straight forward no no nonsense style of writing.
As well as the first novel, After Julius and Odd Girl Out warrant
specific mention. In her personal life she was married to Kingsley Amis and
during the war served as an air raid warden based in London. Collectors can
still acquire the 1st editions at reasonable cost. The first book, naturally
being the most valuable though still not prohibitive. The rest of the books are
very reasonably priced. The English editions predate the American and are
generally more collectable.
