Edward Lear
was born in London on 12th May 1812 the twelfth child of 21 ! His childhood was
unhappy and plagued by ill health, something which would continue through his
life. His reputation as an artist was secured by his superb illustrations of
parrots, even more remarkable given he was only eighteen years old. His
reputation today rests largely on the Nonsense books of course. First editions
are extremely collectable today, even early reprints are of value
