Dorothy Parker was born on 22 August 1893 in New Jersey, USA. She
came from a prosperous family and after leaving school pursued a literary
career, eventually being published in Vanity Fair for which she was paid $12.
She continued with considerable success at the magazine until until 1919 when
she was fired due to complaints and 'troublesome behaviour'. Her most acclaimed
work is the short story Soldiers of the Republic which was based on her
experiences in Spain during the civil war. Parker passed away in 1967. Us
