More Information
Djuna Barnes, born 1892, was an American playwright and novelist.
Critically regarded and highly original, her initial success was credited to TS
Eliot's praise and promotion for Nightwood. It is fair to say that she enjoyed
greater success with her contemporaries and critics than she did with the
public, as indeed she seems more popular with book collectors than readers. As
ever, the early titles command the money, though none of her work is bargain
basement in terms of value.
