Maurice Denton Welch was born 29 March 1915 in Shanghai, China.
His life was somewhat tragic, he passed away at the age of thirty-three after
being plagued by ill health. Whilst his name is not one that trips off
everyone's tongue today he remains a cult figure and highly respected by those
familiar with his work. That group also includes book collectors who are very
keen to acquire his 1st editions. all of the books mentioned in this
bibliography are of collectable value, especially the early books which run to
three figure sums. Signed copies are particularly scarce will will command a
considerable premium, especially so with a nice literary association. As always
with modern first editions, presence and condition of the dustwrapper makes a
huge difference to desirability and consequently value. With jackets effectively
being worth more than the books it makes one wonder whether we are actually
collecting books or dust jackets!.
