Cecil Scott Forester was born in Cairo on 27th August 1899 and
travelled extensively during his childhood years. Originally he began to train
as a Doctor but failed to complete his studies before embarking on a literary
career. He is, of course, best known and remembered for Horatio Hornblower his
maritime fiction series character. Hugely popular not only then but also today.
Many of his other works have now drifted into obscurity sadly but there is a
treasure trove awaiting those who seek them out.
